% + dementoid video collaboration, with monome action
Hypersucculent is an entry by % to the 2008 rpm challenge. You can download it as a zip by clicking here, or listen to the individual tracks on virb. A lot of emphasis on simplicity and recursion, taking inspiration from the structure and form of succulent plants. At most points there are no more than 3 simultaneous tracks being played, using samples and found sounds recorded onto cassette tape, with delay sprinkled throughout. mlr (aes .3) was used extensively, rewired into live for recording and assembly.
makingthenoise recruited edison, jacobian, lokey, wingo, ghosts of the field, c1t1zen, and % for a collective entry into the 2008 rpm challenge. the result was miximal, an album crafted using monome devices.
mlr 2.27, using two loops with highly shuffled rhythm and combined 1/16 note quantization, directed by two finger bounce technique.
From createdigitalmusic:
Want to make music and motion with unusual inputs, like Wii controllers, Lemur multi-touch touchscreens, Monomes, and (now) 3D mice? OSCulator is a wonderful app that supports OpenSoundControl and sends MIDI events, with support for some hardware that can’t be supported any other way.
Performed on a monome 128 running mlr. The samples were from this sketch I made a while back, which I modified to align some jazzy stabs with heavy kicks and precisely-positioned hi-hat bits, for maximum-improvisational bounce effect. This sets the foundation for the two-finger stab technique, demonstrated below:
Done with mlr 2.27, using a drum loop I made in Ableton Live and synth samples recorded live from a synthesizer. Experimented with pattern sequencing.
Created an aggregator of monome-related media found on flickr, vimeo, and youtube with Yahoo Pipes.
